⭐The Artist’s Way Week 1

I’ve heard many good things about the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It’s a book that helps you reach your inner artist. As someone who has the urge to be creative but doesn’t know what to do - I thought I’d give this a shot.

The first week is about Regaining a Sense of Safety.

Upon first glance, I didn’t really understand what the author meant. What do you mean “safety” when it comes to art? I thought it was just something you DID, not a feeling.

With this way of thinking, a week later, I now understand what the author meant. The way we approach our art has been influenced by others. Our art cannot exist without need for validation. Little Amelia couldn’t create because she felt heavily judged.

This weeks Tasks involved writing letters to yourself. You time-traveled to childhood - who were the ones stopping you from being creative and who were your supports. What lives could you have lived?

The most important part of the Artist’s Way is the Morning Pages. Now, the consensus is “DO THREE PAGES”. However, I have carpal tunnel. I cannot hold a pencil for that long. Now you COULD type them, but I’m not trying to look at a screen at 5 AM.

So, I’ve compromised. I’m doing 1 page for week 1, and during week 2, I’ll up it to TWO pages. We’ll see if we make it to three without my hands giving out on me before the day begins.

I WILL SAY: Morning pages are pretty nice. I like being able to organize my day and figure out what I want to do creatively. It’s actually helped a LOT with the second part of this article:

⭐Challenge: Post Tik Toks

I’m a lurker on social media. I’ve never been one to post something I like. Maybe someone will get a comment every once in a while. So what the hell am I doing making Tik Toks?

Remember I said the lesson I learned in June was Challenge? Yeah, I meant literally. I’m challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone. I’m TALKING??? in these posts. (Still can’t believe that). I’m posting mostly pottery and some art stuff on there.
